It Started With a GitHub Repo
On August 17, 2023, StudioNova began as a single GitHub repository: sd-wav2lip-uhq. The idea was straightforward — build an AI lip sync tool that let users sync audio to video and images with a level of quality that didn’t exist yet.
This was before Veo. Before Sora. Before most of the AI video generation tools that exist today. We were among the first to offer high-quality AI lip syncing that actually looked convincing.
But it wasn’t just basic lip sync. Our tool let users select which person in a video was speaking and apply audio specifically to them. It offered built-in language translation — users could input dialogue in one language, and our AI would translate it to another, then lip-sync the translated audio to the speaker’s mouth. All from a single tool.
Going Viral
The repo quickly garnered 1,400+ stars on GitHub. Then it hit Reddit.
When we posted on r/StableDiffusion, the response was immediate. Users couldn’t stop talking about it. The comments were full of people stunned by the quality — this wasn’t the glitchy, obvious lip sync they were used to seeing. It looked real.

That moment changed everything for us. What started as a side project was clearly solving a real problem for a lot of people.
Building the Product
We decided to turn this into a standalone product. Users could sign up through Patreon and get access to our latest software for $35/month. And we kept building.
AI face swap came first — the ability to imprint anyone’s face onto a video or image with startling accuracy. Here’s an early demo that shows the technology in action:
Then came AI animation of live-action film — the ability to transform real footage into stylized animation. We helped a French rapper create a full music video using our animation tools, turning raw footage into something that would have taken a traditional animator weeks to produce:
Feature by feature, the product grew. By 2024, we had 2,000 paying customers — proof that creators needed these AI video editing tools.
The Problem We Couldn’t Ignore
As our user base grew, one problem kept surfacing: installation.
Our software was powerful, but it was on-premise. Users needed the right NVIDIA GPU. They had to navigate significant coding to get everything installed and running. For technical users — developers, AI enthusiasts — this was manageable. But it created a hard ceiling on who could use our product.
We were hearing from animators who told us that creating animation with traditional tools like Adobe Animate or Blender was difficult and time-consuming, but that StudioNova’s AI animation tools made them significantly more productive. Yet many potential users couldn’t get past the setup.
The tool that was supposed to make creativity easier still required a technical barrier to entry.
The Leap to the Cloud
So we made a decision: build a cloud-based AI video editor.
No GPU requirements. No installation. No coding. Just an email, a password, and access to the full creative power of StudioNova — an online video editor with no download required.
We spent all of 2025 building it. The goal was clear — take what our animators loved about the on-premise tool and make it accessible to everyone. We wanted to build something as simple as CapCut to use, but powerful enough for professional animation and AI video editing workflows.
By the end of 2025, we had it.
Where We Are Now
After two months of beta testing, we have officially launched our cloud-based AI video editor at studionova.ai.
What once required an NVIDIA GPU and hours of setup now requires nothing more than a browser. The same AI lip sync, face swap, and animation tools that garnered 1,400+ stars on GitHub and went viral on Reddit — now available to anyone, anywhere.
From a single GitHub repo to a full AI video editor. That’s the StudioNova story. And we’re just getting started.
